Councilmember Cheh shops at Giant on Connecticut Avenue in Ward 3 as she attempts the 2012 SNAP Challenge, organized by D.C. Hunger Solutions. The challenge is to live on $30 for a week’s worth of groceries - about the average supplement an individual SNAP recipient in the District gets. This amount does not cover basic personal needs, like soap, shampoo, washing detergent, toothpaste, etc. The challenge lasts until Monday, October 15th at midnight.
